About once a year we do a post that explains us. Information Station, and the founders, Wendy Knudson and Erich Knudson, just to let the new supporters and even remind the current ones how and why we do what we do.
It has been a couple years since we have made this type of post. Largely because the current supporters comment and tell some of the “newbie’s” how we operate. Which they have done so elegantly and graciously. Thank you all for the long standing support. With nearly 10,000 follows and 50,000 views per week across all our platforms, we figure it is time to make another post.
First of all, we currently both work for a fire district here in Lincoln County. We both are 25+ year residents of the area and specifically the South Lincoln County area. We absolutely love our Lincoln County community. This is why we started Information Station. We we’re just as frustrated with wondering what was going on now rather than finding out a week from now. We promised to follow our HIPAA rules and took it a step further. Responding agencies over time have followed suit with not saying certain details over the radios.
When we report a story, it is live as it happens on the radio. We will not embellish details and will be as accurate as we can with the information that is coming from dispatch and responders onscene. We will NOT report exact addresses, unless it is a business, or report make and models of vehicles. This is information that shouldn’t be publicly broadcast live. Families don’t want or need to hear that a possibile loved one might be in serious harm via the internet or social media so don’t ask in the comments. You can private message us and we will tell you if we can but as we said above, a lot of the agencies have followed suit and will not say over the radio unless absolutely necessary.
Another note worthy of mentioning is that our website and social media platforms are our private business platforms. WE control what is said and done on them. We see it as no different as walking into a brick and mortar location and acting unprofessional. The difference is that we don’t need to involve the police to “86” you from our business. Simple click of a button and your out. So please don’t use profanity, racisms, religion or anything else you wouldn’t say in front of your mother and father when you were 12 years old or to someone’s face directly on any of our posts or platforms.
Thank you all again for your continued support and we look forward to keeping Lincoln County, our community, as accurately informed as possible for many years to come.
