Classic Rock with a Classy Twist: Candlelight Sessions at Newport Performing Arts Center
NEWPORT, OR – Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and the Newport Symphony Orchestra invite you to experience a truly unique evening of music as they present “Candlelight Sessions” on Thursday, May 14th at 7 pm.
Imagine sitting on stage with four extraordinary musicians — bathed in the warm glow of flickering candlelight — as you’re treated to string quartet arrangements of some of the greatest hits of classic rock. This intimate, glowing concert experience treats you to reimaginations of the songs that defined a generation.
Forget the distance between performer and audience. The Candlelight Sessions tears down that wall entirely, placing listeners inches from the instruments. The musicians (Casey Bozell on Violin, Alberta Barnes on Violin, Shauna Keyes on Viola, and Adrienne Welsh on Cello) will guide the audience on a journey through beloved classics, sharing stories and insights along the way.
The rumored playlist reads like the soundtrack of a lifetime. Expect sweeping string arrangements of songs like White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane), Paint It Black (The Rolling Stones), Life on Mars (David Bowie), Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd), More Than a Feeling (Boston), Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison), Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf), Livin’ on a Prayer (Bon Jovi), Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Pinball Wizard / See Me, Feel Me (The Who), and more. These songs have filled arenas, but now you can experience them in an intimate setting, with the precision and mastery of a world-class string quartet.
Don’t miss this special event — on stage — in the Alice Silverman Theatre at Newport Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $45 when purchased at the box office (777 W. Olive Street) or by calling 541-265-ARTS. Tickets are also available online (additional fee applies). Learn more at

Youth Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition
EDALC Invites the Community to Celebrate Local Student Entrepreneurs at the Youth Pitch
Competition
The Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County and the Oregon Coast Small Business
Development Center are excited to host Lincoln County’s Youth Entrepreneurship Pitch
Competition. This event will feature the students who participated in the Youth
Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) presenting their business plan pitches to compete for prize
money towards their professional futures.
The YEP program began in 2024 with its inaugural cohort and is now in its third year. Each year,
the program brings together local students from high schools across Lincoln County to
participate in weekly classes focused on entrepreneurial thinking and business plan
development.
The participants worked in teams or independently to build a business plan and pitch. The top
five business pitches will be presented to a panel of local business leaders on May 13th in
competition for cash stipends that can be used towards any type of education, training, or
development towards their career or entrepreneurial endeavors."It is the highlight of my year, watching students discover that entrepreneurship is an actual career path for them.” said Kelliane Parker, Assistant Director of the Oregon Coast Small Business Development Center. “They learn how to follow their dreams as an artist, an inventor, a bakery owner, or provide much-needed services, such as landscaping or construction, and quite a few have actually launched businesses."
The YEP pitch competition is an event that the Economic Development Alliance is proud to bring
to our coastal communities again this year.
“Entrepreneurship isn’t just about building a business—it’s about sharpening the mindset to
solve problems, spot opportunities, and think like a founder,” said Paul Schuytema, Executive
(MORE)Director of the Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County. “These high school students
are channeling that mindset into their passions to create something truly their own. May 13th’s
pitch event is their chance to showcase their ideas and our opportunity to celebrate their drive
and creativity.”
The YEP Pitch Competition will be held at the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building Auditorium
located at 2030 Southeast Marine Science Drive, Newport, OR 97365 on Wednesday, May 13th
at 5:00 p.m. This is a FREE event, celebratory refreshments and snacks will be provided. If you
are interested in attending, please visit the eventbrite page to reserve your seat.
The Youth Entrepreneurship Program could not be possible without its generous sponsors,
Business Oregon, the City of Lincoln City, First Security Bank, Lincoln County, the Oregon
Community Foundation, and the Oregon Coast Small Business Development Center.
EDALC’s entrepreneurial events, including the YEP pitch competition, are funded in-part from
grant dollars from Business Oregon’s Rural Opportunity Initiative (ROI) program. The ROI
program provides funding and technical assistance to rural organizations and partnerships to
foster the awareness (and future success) of our local entrepreneurs – they are truly an
essential foundational element of our local economy here in Lincoln County.
The Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County (EDALC) is an independent Oregon
501(c)(6) nonprofit economic development organization. EDALC staff members work every day
to attract, support and grow businesses in Lincoln County to ensure community-wide economic
well-being and an improved quality of life. EDALC has served Lincoln County for over 30 years
and is governed by a passionate, local board of directors. We receive our funding from local
