PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: URGENT NOTICE REGARDING UNAUTHORIZED EMERGENCY RADIO USE

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking the public’s assistance in locating an emergency services radio that is being used inappropriately on law enforcement and emergency dispatch channels.

Authorities believe this device is a former surplus radio that was not properly deprogrammed before being decommissioned. While the person in possession of this radio may not be aware of the severity of the situation, the unauthorized use of these frequencies is causing dangerous disruptions to critical public safety communications.

To the individual using this radio, or anyone with information:

STOP all transmissions on these channels immediately.

RETURN the device to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible for proper deprogramming.

Why this is serious:

Interfering with emergency frequencies is more than just a nuisance, it is a direct threat to public safety and a violation of federal law. According to 47 U.S.C. § 333, it is illegal to willfully or maliciously interfere with any radio communications licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The Willamette Valley Communications Center 911 records all traffic on these channels. All recordings of unauthorized transmissions are being forwarded to the appropriate federal authorities for investigation under 47 U.S.C. § 501, which carries penalties including substantial fines and potential imprisonment.

Help us keep our community and first responders safe. If you have any information, please contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office immediately 541-265-4277
